The long, rich history of cannabis and tobacco smoking

Humans have long been in allyship with plants and we have been smoking them for millennia. Incense burners in China used in funeral rites some 2,700 years ago have been cited as the first documentation of cannabis for psychoactive exploration. This is one of the oldest ways known that cannabis was inhaled.1 Later came pipes, joints, bongs, and many other ways of consuming it via inhalation.

#RdRMixing: cannabis (THC) with stimulants, depressants and hallucinogens

The first observation to make to anyone thinking of mixing cannabis with other psychoactive substances is that it would be wise to find out beforehand what effects each of these substances has on their own. Furthermore, they should consider that mixing the effects of certain substances can lead to unexpected situations as a result of interactions; for example, they have an excessively intense experience or they engage in risk behaviours because inhibitions and self-control are diminished. In this text, we will review the main risks of mixing cannabis with stimulants, depressants and hallucinogens, and we will explain one of the main theories of the risk reduction philosophy: the memorable “Zinberg triangle”.

#RdRMixing: cannabis (THC) + alcohol

The psicoactive menu of each person is a formula depending on a lot of factors and more flexible for some than for others, just like food regimes. In the same way there exist many food diets (Mediterranean, vegan, vegetarian, detox, alkaline, etc.),  there is also a variety of diets for the spirit. From the most exacting proposals (abstinent or abstemious) to the more flexible ones (policonsumption) there is a wide  fan of possibilities and modulations. In this post we analyse one of the most common mixes, that of cannabis and alcohol, with a focus on the risks and the pleasures it provides.

We learn by mimesis: young people and consumption

Cannabis consumption in young people is associated with more risks for a number of important reasons. After alcohol and tobacco, cannabis is the drug most consumed by the country’s adolescent population; this fact may be a cause for concern, as it is well-known that consumption has potentially more risks and causes harm among younger people.

Fact or fiction: is there such a thing as a cannabis overdose?

Part of the controversy on this issue is likely to stem from a misunderstanding of terminology. So first of all we need to define what exactly is meant by “overdose”. If it is interpreted to mean a set of acute adverse health consequences of taking too much cannabis, then it does occur, and indeed most users will have experienced it at some point in their lives. By contrast, if an overdose is seen as an episode that can result in death from poisoning, then no, this is not the case.

Vaporize it! An alternative to burning and nicotine

Everyone knows that cannabis use can pose health risks for the smoker. However, less well known is the method of use which can greatly mitigate a large part of this potential harm while also affording an enhanced user experience: vaporisation, which is unanimously rated by both users and research as the safest and most efficient strategy for harm reduction and pleasure management associated with cannabis use.
